So we're I think 4 weeks into it, which I think is a good time to really have an opinion of the rookies lol. Here are my opinions on the rookies, I'm curious on what others think lol.
Ranked #1 and mentored by Laycool, Kaval: I really like Kaval and his pairing with Laycool. I figured this would go the same route of Daniel Bryan/Miz pairing, but in a pleasant surprise, it hasn't. His backstage segments with Laycool are entertaining and usually funny. His in ring ability is solid. I don't think he's the most exciting guy to watch, but watching him hit his finisher and kicks are still something I enjoy seeing. Favorite moment of watching Kaval would have to be his sunset flip into like a mini Warrior's Stomp.
Ranked #2 and mentored by MVP, Percy Watson: Percy Watson is another one I like. He just has a charisma about him that makes me want to see more of him. He reminds me of Eddie Murphy especially with the face in how he acts and talk lol. His biggest drawback though is walking pretty much right on the line between being just a comedy act and being taken seriously. If he can walk that line, I can see him winning NXT this season. Favorite moment/thing about Percy Watson would oddly have to be his "Oh Yeah" that he does at the end of a promo.
Ranked #3 and mentored by Kofi Kingston, Michael McGillicutty: I'm in the middle on him. I hate his last name, like his ring work, and undecided on his promo ability. His ring work seems very basic, but for some reason I still like it and it stands out more than when other people are very basic. His promo skills though I can't decide whether I like them or not. McGillicutty is someone that I don't want to see gone, but I don't see myself missing him if he's eliminated either. I think I might have ranked him number 5 or 6 instead of number 3.
Ranked #4 and mentored by The Miz, Alex Riley: I liked the guy when I first saw him, and now I really don't care. I think him and Miz would make a good tag team and add another team to the tag division, but that's it. I don't see him winning NXT or being higher than US/IC Title if he makes it onto the main roster. Not that he's bad in the ring or on the mic, he just doesn't seem like the next breakout star of WWE.
Ranked #5 and mentored by Mark Henry, Lucky Cannon: I get why I'm suppose to like him, but I don't like him. He seems so bland. I didn't like his promo in the talk the talk challenge and it really annoyed me. He seems very basic, but unlike with McGillicutty, him sticking to the basics doesn't entertain me. I also don't like the underdog gimmick. I don't mind when someone is the underdog in something, but when that's their gimmick I don't usually enjoy it. I would have put Lucky Cannon at #7, just above Titus. He's just not entertaining me at all.
Ranked #6 and mentored by John Morrison, Eli Cottonwood: I know I'm in the minority, but I like Eli Cottonwood. I like his promos because they have made me ask if he's all there(though the talk the talk challenge promo was bad in my opinion). His in ring work, like a couple of the pros pointed out, looks awkward at times. I think if he improved his ring work, touched up his promos, and became more vicious he could be a lot better, but even then I don't see him winning.
Ranked #7 and mentored by Cody Rhodes, Husky Harris: To quote one of the WWE pros, Husky Harris has the engine of a Ferrari in the body of a tank. This guy is in a similar position that "Big Country" Roy Nelson was in on The Ultimate Fighter. He's got the worst physique of the group, but he's one of the more talented members of the group. I like this guy and wish he was higher, maybe top 4. Unfortunately I don't see him lasting. I see the fan vote being responsible for him being eliminated which sucks.
Ranked #8, Eliminated, and mentored by Zack Ryder, Titus O'Neal: I never cared for this guy and I agree with his elimination. His in ring work was clumsy and his promo skills even worse. The only thing he had going for him was his size. I hated that "dog bark" he would do. His promo when he got eliminated annoyed me too, because it was so out of place. I agree with the parts I understood, but it just made me ask myself what the hell is he doing.
Overall: I think Season 2 is better than Season 1. Season 1 lacked the variety in characters that Season 2 has. Season 1 rookies hit me as just I'm a wrestler from ____________. I don't get that feeling from all the season 2 rookies and I'm definitely glad for that.
