Episode 01: Let The Napalm Rain
Alright, so... Another Mega Man game! That's about all I can say with starting this. Another motivation method for me to finish another Mega Man game and its also for a friend of mine so dammit, I will finish it one way or the other!
Alright, so, we're kicking off Mega Man 5. After the events that lead up to this, Mega Man decides to head off to the Weapons Factory to deal with Napalm Man!
The stage can be a little annoying. The damn Sumatran enemies in the beginning can really lay some damage on you if you're not careful. I believe just two hits from them will drain half your life so you really need to learn where they are placed and fire accordingly. The following part is quite annoying too with the Rolling Drill, as they can destroy Mega Man instantly - however they can be destroyed, just be careful.
Second half of the stage isn't particularly bad until you get to the final stretch leading to the Boss Door with the Mizzile enemies coming up out of the pits. Overall though its not too bad as long as you take your time with it.
As for Napalm Man? Perhaps just as easy as Toad Man. At least in my opinion. Though, I will give him his credit - he can actually provide some damage to you if you're not careful, but once you get his pattern down, he becomes just as easy.
Information on Napalm Man below.
Napalm Man is a robot Dr. Wily created to guard his secret weapons factory. He's armed with powerful explosives and has caterpillar treads for feet. Being a figurative walking weapon, even his comrades get a little uptight around him, so he doesn't have a whole lot of friends. During his daily routine of patrolling the factory, he also searches for weapons that are stronger than his own.
Napalm Man's main weapon is the Napalm Bomb, an explosive capsule he fires from his arms. He can also fire missiles from the barrel on his head and smaller guided missiles from his shoulders.
Napalm Man is an incredibly huge weapons enthusiast, sometimes to the point of rabid obsession. It was even his dream to open a weapons museum and eventually he succeeded, though no one came to see it. Aside from this, Napalm Man is also faithful towards his duties. He hates safety equipment.
Episode 02: Gyro Flight
After defeating Napalm Man, Mega Man heads to the Sky Gardens to confront Gyro Man.
This stage is quite annoying from start to finish. The first half isn't too bad, however, there are a few spots that do raise my annoyance level just a tad. The first half you mainly have to take out enemies while avoiding pitfalls, its nothing major, really.
The second half of the stage is where it really gets annoying, in my opinion. You have enemies that like to fall to the ground to try and crush you as well as falling platforms to traverse while avoiding or taking the damage and just rushing through. Capcom also put one of the letters below a falling platform. Evil bastards.
The second half also has what a friend and I like to call the elevator of doom. As it rises, spiked platforms appear above you. After that, its kind of smooth sailing. There still is the obstacles of enemies and pitfalls but compared to the previous section this is a breather.
As for the fight with Gyro Man. Getting through his stage, Sky Gardens... Sounds so peaceful. Hell in the Sky, sounds better. Anyway, after all that trouble you'd think the boss would be as hard as the stage, but he's not. If it wasn't for the stage I'd suggest a lot of new people go after Gyro Man first but... well, with the stage being evil, I have to say go take on Star Man or Gravity Man instead if you're new to the games.
Information on Gyro Man below.
A flight capable robot created by Dr. Wily. Because jet engine power was too costly, Wily developed Gyro Man with a large propeller on his back; as it stands Gyro Man is said to prefer this mode of flight. Dr. Wily had Gyro Man occupy the sky gardens to collect the entrance fees from visitors, presumably to fund Wily's other venues. However, once Gyro Man took over the attendance immediately dropped, which has caused Gyro Man to grumble over boredom.
Gyro Man's primary weapon is the Gyro Attack, a spinning, propeller-like blade that can change course to follow its target. He also uses his ability of flight to hide out until he can initiate a sneak attack.
Gyro Man is a very proud robot, but this makes him tend to look down on people. He likes propeller toys, and dislikes jet engines.
Episode 03: Evening Star
After defeating Gyro Man, Mega Man heads off to confront Star Man at the Space Station.
Alright, so this stage is perfect for someone new to Mega Man, at least in my opinion. The gravity physics are much like underwater physics, but it doesn't take long to get used to them. Overall I believe the stage is pretty easy and a perfect one for a beginner. If not, then definitely Gravity Man.
There are some hazards throughout the stage, most notably the amount of spikes, especially in the beginning of the second half the stage where there are a few tricky jumps reminiscent of a couple of underwater jumps in Wily Stage 1 of Mega Man 4. Overshoot or undershoot the jump and your dead. Gotta be just right. The stage also introduces a new form of Metall: Space Metall.
As for the fight with Star Man, he's a little on the unpredictable side, not as much as Shadow Man, but he's up there in upredictability, but even with that said, he's pretty much the beginner Robot Master of Mega Man 5, in my opinion.
Information on Star Man below.
Star Man is a battle robot created by Dr. Wily for development in space. Under Dr. Wily's orders, Star Man took command of an unused space station orbiting the Earth. In more recent times, Star Man has been tasked with supervising the construction of Wily's bases.
Star Man's primary weapon is the Star Crash, a barrier made out of special star-shaped energy. Star Man can also throws this barrier at his enemies in attack. Star Man is also capable of swift movements, even in lowered gravity.
Star Man is described as an ardent romanticist. He's active in opera and musical appreciation, loves shiny things, and he gave himself the nickname of "the splendid noble youth." His future aspiration is to travel into the depths of space with a lover. Perhaps due to his flighty heart, though, Star Man has very intense assumptions about all things. Star Man also enjoys jokes, but his more recent role of supervisor has taken away a lot of his time to pay attention to them, which has made him unhappy. Star Man dislikes robots who have no dreams.
Episode 04: Feeling Gravity's Pull
After defeating Star Man, Mega Man heads off to confront Gravity Man at the Anti-Gravity Research Facility.
This stage has quite the unique gimmick with gravity changing direction, allowing you to walk on the ceiling. Of course it comes with several hazards strewn about the stage. However, even with that said, I don't think its that hard of a stage and would suggest Gravity Man being one of the first newcomers take on. The letter in this stage is a little tricky to get too.
I really have nothing to say on the stage. Its short and a little on the below average difficulty side. None of the enemies provide too much of an obstacle except maybe the Power Muscler, but you can stand to the side and fire away at him as he'll hit the ledge above you and turn back around. Overall the stage is pretty easy.
Gravity Man is also easy but I have to say he is tricky. With the constant gravity flow changing its a little tricky to keep up with him sometimes. He can also fire his shots in awkward ways that can catch you off guard. I also am firm in the belief his hit box is larger than he is, because I've taken hits from here where I was well away from his body. Overall though, this Robot Master isn't too bad to deal with.
Information on Gravity Man below.
Gravity Man is a battle robot created by Dr. Wily. He took over an anti-gravity research facility and served as its defense from Mega Man. By taking an experimental gravity control device and installing it into himself, Gravity Man was able to effortlessly manipulate the gravity inside the complex.
Gravity Man's trademark ability is his Gravity Hold, which allows him to manipulate the gravity of a single body. He can change his own local gravity and send himself soaring to the ceiling, or do the same to an enemy. His only attack is a weak shot cannon, though, giving him little in the way of offensive power.
Gravity Man is a very passionate researcher of science, and he enjoys studying physics the most. However, he's also not very social. It's said that when weaker robots come by Gravity Man prefers to hide in the ceiling rather than confront them. Gravity Man also dislikes outer space.
Episode 05: Carved In Stone
After defeating Gravity Man, Mega Man heads off to confront Stone Man at the Highlands.
What to say about Stone Man's stage? Its long, easy, and boring is a good sum of that. Really, I don't have a lot to say here - none of the enemies are much trouble. The platforming can seem a little intimidating with the spinning platforms in the second half but its nothing really. The stage introduces a new Metall though, the Metall Mommy. When destroyed it releases three little baby Metalls.
The only thing I can say about Stone Man's stage is the letter placement. Its not in the main run of the stage but in a hidden section. You have to shoot at the wall to reveal the entrance. A little bit of a bastard move by Capcom if I do say so myself.
Information on Stone Man below.
Stone Man is a battle robot created by Dr. Wily. The outer armor of his body is made from very firm stone bricks. Stone Man's primary purpose was maintaining a high mountain for use in the scheme to take over the sky gardens with Gyro Man.
Stone Man's main weapon is the Power Stone, an attack where he fires off three large boulders that rotate around a central point. Also, despite Stone Man's heavy body he is capable of making powerful jumps. If he jumps too high, however, the shock of landing can cause his body to break apart. In Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters Stone Man's Power Stone attack instead involves creating a large stone hand that crawls along the ground. He can also create stone barriers.
Stone Man has a strong will, but he's also very stubborn. He enjoys taking walks while sipping oil, and dislikes stingy people. He's good companions with Guts Man.
Episode 06: A Charge To Keep
After defeating Stone Man, Mega Man heads off to confront Charge Man at the Train Transport.
What to say about this stage? I find it pretty easy, to be honest. There's not many hazards at all other than enemies. I do like the layout and gimmick of the stage. Traversing train car to train car until you finally meet with Charge Man to have showdown and all. Really, this stage is a beginner's trap, in my opinion. I breezed through the stage pretty much. Then the boss is something else. And the letter here is easy to get, not hidden, not surrounded by spikes that want to rape Mega Man with the force of a thousand suns. None of that. Just there in midair.
Charge Man on the other hand is pretty annoying. His pattern seems simple at first, but then he'll throw you for a loop by charging at you instead of blowing his smoke stack. He gives no real clear indication, from what I've seen, of what he's going to do, so you just have to be quick on your toes, or fingers in this case, and just be ready to react at all times.
Information on Charge Man below.
Charge Man is a robot used by Dr. Wily for shipments of resources to occupied areas. Having the body figure of a train helps camouflage him during his excursions. However, due to a lack of funding during Charge Man's creation, he was made with an energy reactor that runs on coal and water.
Despite having an obsolete power source, Charge Man is a pretty strong robot. His main attack is the Charge Kick, which allows him to dash forward at incredible speed. He can also launch flaming chunks of coke from the smokestack on his head.
Charge Man has an earnest personality, though he's also quick to quarrel. Thinking he's the cheapest robot ever made sometimes makes him uncooperative. He likes to tell old, boastful stories and hates signs and other things written in plain letters (such as Japanese's katakana).
Episode 07: Catch A Wave
After defeating Charge Man, Mega Man heads off to the Water Supply to confront Wave Man
This stage is boring. The first half is just platforming while avoiding obstacles. There's nothing really intimidating about it until the jet ski portion. Enemies are constantly coming at you during this time and it gets a little hectic in trying to avoid or kill them all. There is also a mini boss half way through the jet ski portion but its pretty easy. The stage as a whole is easy and boring. At least it has some nice music to make up for it. Getting the letter can be a little tricky if you don't know its coming up.
As for the fight with Wave Man. Well, at first I thought it was a averagely challenging fight but after figuring out just how to deal with him it became pretty easy. So, I really have nothing to say other than you can jump over the water streams so use that to your advantage.
Information on Wave Man below.
Wave Man is an amphibious battle robot created by Dr. Wily. Reasoning that the first step to world domination was controlling the water supply, Dr. Wily had Wave Man invade the water quality administration.
Wave Man's main armament is the Water Wave, which allows him to cause columns of pressurized water to burst up from the ground. His right arm is also equipped with a buster that fires harpoons. Despite these weapons, though, Wave Man is at a disadvantage in close quarters combat.
Wave Man is marked with a high emotional personality. It's said that he's easily moved to tears. On the other hand, if angered he'll violently thrust his harpoon around until he calms down. He is also very anti-social, and not easily approachable. He enjoys taking walks at the ocean bottom, and hates sludge and chemical waste.
Episode 08: Crystal Clear
After defeating Wave Man, Mega Man heads off to confront Crystal Man at the Crystal Mines.
Probably one of the harder stages in the game. A lot of obstacles and quite a few annoying enemies. The Crystal Joes are probably the easiest enemy, they are just annoying in the fact you have to wait for them to quit charging and fire their crystal before being able to kill them. Also, not sure why my weapons were already drained - I guess maybe because I traveled back to Stone Man's stage and gathered the missed M-Tank and E-Tank, since I did use a bit of special weapons there.
The second half of the stage is the easier half, in my opinion. The only intimidating thing about it is the drop, due to the spikes scattered about. The last letter "V" can be obtained in this drop - but you have to quick. With that letter, we finally receive our bird companion, Beat. Which I show him off briefly.
Crystal Man was annoying to no hit. I did watch someone else video before attempting this and it still took a couple of tries. But I wanted to since I had did the same to the previous seven Robot Masters. If you can pattern lock him by forcing him to hop (Toad Man disease!) and shoot his buster, instead of firing off the Crystal Eye, it makes it easier.
Information on Crystal Man below.
Crystal Man is a robot Dr. Wily created from the raw materials of crystal ore he mined. Crystal Man has the ability to make artificial crystals, a talent Wily used to make money at first, but later modified it to be used offensively.
Crystal Man's main weapon is the Crystal Eye, which allows him to create four spherical crystals that ricochet off of solid surfaces. He can also fire energy shots from the crystal in his stomach.
Crystal Man's personality is very cool and mysterious, but he tends to be shady and secretive. He likes fortune telling and dislikes scientists.
Information on Beat below.
Beat is a bird-like support robot created for Mega Man by Dr. Cossack as a sign of gratitude for sorting out the events of Mega Man 4. His primary ability in many of the games he appears in is to follow close to Mega Man and attack any enemies that come near by means of bodily collision. In Mega Man 7, Beat can rescue Mega Man by pulling him out of pits. In Mega Man & Bass and Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, Beat provides support by delivering a temporary shield. Usually, Beat needs a special device to be called that's not available at the beginning of the game, and often only becomes available buy collecting or buying one or more items.
Though not having much more personality than that of a self-conscious bird, Beat is a very loyal companion, as can be seen in Super Adventure Rockman, where Beat constantly follows Mega Man around and often points his attention to aid or sudden dangers. For a small sized robot, Beat has very formidable power and speed. However, he has the tendency to go wandering off. He likes flying the skies, and dislikes heavy objects, probably those which he has to carry - Beat thinks Mega Man needs to go on a diet.
Episode 09: In The Dark [1/4]
After defeating the eight Robot Masters, Mega Man heads off to Proto Man's fortress to confront him about what he has done and to rescue Dr. Light. However, like any fortress, he must fight his way through several stages.
Gah. I do horribly on this stage. I am ashamed. Plenty of annoying enemies and plenty of annoying traps. Its just chaos to me. Its not particularly hard, looking at it, but when I actually got to it, I kept screwing up. Really sorry about this performance. Oh and the Yoku Blocks return. Son of a bitch. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this despite the mishaps.
The fight with Dark Man V1 could have been better. I wasn't exactly attempting a no hit, but I think I could have done better. His lower body is a tank and he'll slowly move towards you firing shots until he's taken enough damage, then he'll speed up. You can jump over him, but the timing when he charges at you is kind of erratic. Kind of like Charge Man in a way.
Information on Dark Man Robot Series below.
Dark Man, or rather the Dark Man robot series (consisting of four robots) was created to assist in framing Proto Man for kidnapping Dr. Light. When Mega Man infiltrated the imposter Proto's fortress, he battled his way through three Dark Man robots and then reached the fake Proto Man. Hesitant to attack, he was fired upon and badly injured. Just then, however, the true Proto Man showed up and shattered Dark Man's disguise. Now knowing that this final Dark Man robot wasn't really Proto Man, Mega Man disposed of him.
This is one of the few instances that the word "Dark" doesn't really refer to a literal sense of his powers. Instead, the reference to darkness seems to relate to confusion or doubt. In a dark room, one can't tell who is who, and likewise Dark Man posed as Proto Man and fooled everyone for quite a while.
Information on Dark Man V1 below.
Dark Man 1 is the first of the Dark Man robot series created to destroy Mega Man, whose lower body is a tank-like construct. It will slowly comes towards Mega Man and fire energy shots from its buster. Once it takes enough damage, it will begin to move faster.
Episode 10: In The Dark [2/4]
After defeating the first guardian of the fortress, Mega Man heads deeper into the place to be confronted by more enemies, traps, and another guardian.
The stage is annoying in the first part, mainly the conveyer belt crossing with the Bombier enemies. This can be remedied with careful jumping and use of the Power Stone. Not as useless as some make it out to be. The second half of the stage is pretty smooth sailing, so, I have nothing much to say on it.
The battle with Dark Man V2 isn't too bad, in fact I consider this one easier than the first one. Much like the first one after he loses a certain amount of health, he'll start moving faster. However, he doesn't seem to have any attacks other than trying to run into Mega Man. His shield can deflect your Mega Buster shots, but it isn't anything annoying like Wily Machine 4, Phase 2 for example.
Information on Dark Man V2 below.
Dark Man 2, of the Dark Man robot series created to destroy Mega Man, is a base type model. Instead of attacking it creates an electromagnetic barrier that revolves around its body to block attacks. It will try to run into Mega Man.
Episode 11: In The Dark [3/4]
After defeating the second guardian, Mega Man heads off to the third area, drawing ever closer to his target. However, yet another guardian stands in his path.
Honestly, I find this stage quite a bit easier than stage 1 and 2 of this fortress. I don't know why, it has its fair share of hazards but overall its a walk in the park, especially compared to Stage 1. I take some hits that I call bullshit on though, like the hit from the Power Muscler while I was on the ladder. Meh. I will admit I kind of like the moving platform in the later half of the stage. Its not incredibly difficult but it can mess you up if you're not careful. Its still neat to me.
The fight with Dark Man 3 isn't too bad. I did use the E-Tank I picked up in the stage before going in simply because I was low on health and didn't want to risk it, but overall he's kind of easy. Granted, I will admit he's harder than the other two, if only for his freezing move. Other than that, he has a pretty simplified pattern. Kind of reminds me of an early version of Vile to be honest. Heh.
Information on Dark Man V3 below.
Dark Man 3 is the third of the Dark Man robot series created to destroy Mega Man. It is a sniping type, and it can rapid fire energy shots from the cannon mounted on its shoulder. It can also fire rings from its chest that will petrify Mega Man.
Episode 12: In The Dark [4/4]
After defeating the third guardian, the only thing left between Mega Man and Proto Man is a maze like room.
I... have nothing to say about the stage. Its not hard at all. So, yeah. As for the fight with Dark Man V4, it has all the powers of the previous Dark Men, except for the freeze rings, which is perhaps a good thing, considering the damage this guy dishes out. But once you get his pattern down he's pretty easy.
Information on Dark Man V4 below.
Dark Man 4 is the fourth and final model of the Dark Man robot series created to destroy Mega Man. It is also the strongest of the group, wielding an electromagnetic barrier and a powerful buster. In addition, it has the ability to rearrange its body components in order to change its shape and size, as demonstrated when it disguised itself as Proto Man to kidnapped Dr. Light and frame Mega Man's brother.
Episode 13: When Good Pets Go Bad
After uncovering the truth and proving Proto Man innocent, Mega Man heads off to Wily's fortress to confront the mad scientist once more.
This stage is kind of annoying. The first half honestly isn't so bad, the initial part can be kind of intimidating with the spike drop, but honestly, its not too bad. I take a lot of hits in this stage though - That's what I get for not paying attention. The second half of the stage is annoying, so I just use Rush Jet to get across the rotating platform section. The final stretch is awfully reminiscent of Dust Man's stage. Heh.
The fight with Big Pets is easy, but annoying. I hate having to shoot his platforms to get them to spin out so I can get a shot on him. I honestly have nothing to say about it other than its an easy but tedious battle.
Information on Big Pets below.
Big Pets was originally a guide robot used at an amusement park which would use its hovering platforms to transport attendees. It was modified for battle by Dr. Wily, who installed spikes onto its platforms. It also fires small enemy robots from its head as an added deterrent. A sudden shock to either of its platforms will cause them to fly forward.
Episode 14: Circle Of Fear
After defeating Big Pets, Mega Man heads further into Dr. Wily's new fortress where more traps await him.
This stage is pretty standard. It brings back one of the gimmicks from the first Wily Stage in the rotating platforms, except this time its underwater with a low spike ceiling. Once past that part, the stage is pretty smooth sailing.
The fight with Circring Q9 is prett easy once you know his pattern. You may still take a hit or two from the falling spheres, as they can be a little unpredictable at times, but overall, this is a pretty easy boss.
Information on Circring Q9.
Circring Q9 is a flying battle robot that is completely encircled in a thick, ring-shaped armor. It will fly about erratically while launching bombs from its head. Its only weak point is its air intake valve which it opens briefly and exposes the robot's body. The Q and 9 in its name would both be pronounced "kyuu" in Japanese, which means sphere.
Episode 15: Adrenaline Rush MKV
After defeating Circring Q9, Mega Man makes his way deeper into the fortress where he must face the previous eight Robot Masters once again.
Nothing to say, just the rematch against the Robot Masters.
Final Episode: For Whom The Bell Tolls MKV
After defeating the eight robot masters once again, Mega Man confronts Dr. Wily for the fifth time in their ongoing battle.
I really don't feel like typing a description here as the fight with Wily Press is pretty standard and the fight with Wily Machine 5 and Wily Capsule II are annoying. And yes, I use Beat for the final battle against Wily Capsule II because I didn't want to wait all day for him to appear in buster shot range.
Information on Wily Press below.
The Wily Press is a machine created by Dr. Wily when he discovered that Mega Man has a disadvantage to attacks from directly above or below. However, in contrast to all the intense research he did, the Wily Press's only function is to try and crush Mega Man.
Information on Wily Machine 5 below.
For the fifth iteration of the Wily Machine line, Dr. Wily created this towering, tank-like vehicle. Armed with bouncing bombs, missiles and a magnet to pull Mega Man forward, it is a machine Dr. Wily put a lot of self confidence into. However, due to flaw in the wiring, when its cockpit shielding is destroyed the escape capsule automatically launched instead of the power-up equipment kicking in.
Information on Wily Capsule II below.
The escape capsule loaded onto the Wily Machine 5. Like the original Wily Capsule, it can move through the darkness at high speed. This time however, it will appear briefly to attack. It fires energy shots which run along the ground and spiral outward.
