Episode 01: Shatter Their Bones
Alright, this will be a quick little project. Partially brought about by boredom. I fell asleep way too early last night and had nothing to do when I got up at 3AM. I didn't feel like recording any Mega Man just yet.
Anyway, welcome to my LP of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers for the SNES. Even now as an adult I love the Power Rangers. I still watch the shows, as corny as they may be, and I do also watch the newer shows, due to being a fan. I can't help it. Granted they aren't better than the old ones, except maybe the fight scenes, being better choreographed and all but that aside. Good show.
So, here we are with the first stage - which I'm pretty sure is down town Angel Grove. The first stage isn't too bad, you get introduced to various types of Putty within it, but its a pretty standard stage, as are most first stages. Area 2 of Stage 1 you do in Ranger form and a new enemy type appears, a little flying bot that drops timed bombs in your location. Nothing too bad, but in the middle of a fight you can get caught by an explosion.
The boss of this stage, in Area 3, is Bones. He has three phases but overall not too difficult. The first phase he'll fight you with his sword, after that, he'll lose his arms and be inflicted with Toad Man disease as he'll constantly hop around and occasionally spit a fireball at you. In his third phase he's just a skull and will fly around the room periodically shooting fireballs at you from his mouth. This is his weakest form as it takes four or five hits to finally do him in.
And yes I will be using Trini for the entire LP. She was my favorite Ranger back in the day so its biased. I don't care if Jason is better in terms of reach or Billy is the best Ranger in the game. I prefer Trini. Get over of it.
Episode 02: The Laughing Gnome
Alright, here we are with the second stage which starts you off in a wooded area, but you quickly move to a factory area, so, I will call stage 2 a Factory. Some new enemies and stage hazards appear in this area. A ceiling (tree?) mounted machine will fire two shots downward at a diagonal angle. These can also be used to your advantage as they can hurt their own allies. When you get to the factory area, barrels will roll towards you from either side of the screen, introducing a stage hazard. Also, a new type of Putty appears here, a shield wielding Putty. Area 2 focuses more on the platforming aspect of the game, while introducing plenty of hazards to impede your path. Other than that, there are some enemies but nothing major.
Area 3 introduces a couple more platforming sections as well as a new type of Putty, a ball-and-chain Putty as well as a couple new machine enemies. One that drops bomb like projectiles and the other which drops a stream of electricity.
The boss of this stage, in Area 4, is Gnarly Gnome and in my opinion, he is easier than Bones if you know how to deal with him. What I do is stand on the middle platform. If he's below you, he won't attack, if he's on the same platform as you or on one of the upper or lower platforms, he will attack. He also has what I call two phases, the first phase he'll just teleport to a random platform and try to attack. He has two attacks: If he's above you, he'll shoot fireballs at you and if he's bellow you, he'll fire a sound wave at you. In his second phase he plays what I like to call Teleport Roulette, he'll quickly teleport between all places before finally landing on one. When he's doing this, it means he's almost down for the count.
Episode 03: Eyes On Me
The sewers. Need I say more? Spoony covered sewers already at a good length. Granted these sewers aren't as bad as other games take on sewers so its nice to see a sewer level that isn't too bad however it does suffer from some minor mazes. But its honestly not too bad.
Area 1 is the standard beat-em-up style. A new enemy type is introduced here, a spider bot that will shoot web-like beams down at you but overall area 1 isn't much of a threat. Although there is a stage hazard in the water. I'm not quite sure what it is but it periodically lights up with electricity. There are also drills that crawl across the ceiling and drop down once you pass under them. They can be used to damage Putties as well.
Area 2 introduces some new physics, mainly crawling and swimming. It also introduces a new Putty. Once you start crawling through an area, a Putty will follow behind you, wielding a spike wall. It's not much of a threat though, just keep crawling. Some more stage hazards appear here but its nothing major. Although, I have to say Putties being able to hit you while you are swimming is cheap. Cheap hits I say! Also yay for wall jumping!
Area 3 focuses more on the swimming aspect of the stage while avoiding hazards in the water. There are a few Putties strewn about but nothing threatening.
The boss of this stage is Eye Guy and he's a step up from Gnarly Gnome, in my opinion. He has three attacks in his standard form. These are to jump up and try and land on you, to shoot eye lasers, both standing and crouching, and he will also try to throw eyes at you. Eww. His second phase, he's reduced to nothing but a floating eye ball that will occasionally shoot a laser ball at you.
